Size Guide
How to read a size
Two conventions, depending on the shape of the piece.
- l
- Length. The longer side of the piece.
- b
- Breadth. The shorter side of the piece.
- h
- Height. From the base to the rim.
- dia
- Diameter. Straight across a round piece. Planters give both the bottom and the top, because the sides slope outward.

Rectangular and square pieces read length x breadth x height. Planters read bottom diameter x top diameter x height. Round baskets and placemats read diameter x height. Centimetre figures are converted from the inch measurements and rounded to the nearest centimetre.
Judging a size for a purpose
Four habits that stop a basket arriving smaller than the room it was bought for.

Measure the space before you shop
Take a tape to the shelf, the console or the corner and write the number down. Then compare it to the length and breadth in the chart rather than to the photograph.

Match a planter to the pot, not the plant
On a planter the top diameter is the opening. Measure straight across the rim of the nursery pot you want to hide, and pick a top diameter with a little room to spare.

Height decides what fits, not width
A tray at 3 inches high takes flat things. A basket at 7 inches high takes folded ones. Check the height against the tallest thing going in before you check anything else.

Read the shape word too
Open basket, lidded basket, trunk, tray and caddy hold very different things at the same length. The word in the product name tells you as much as the numbers do.
